Tanker Fire: LASG To Prosecute Owner, Driver


The Lagos state government will prosecute the owner and driver of the unfortunate tanker that exploded last Thursday on the Otedola bridge inland Ojodu Berger along the Lagos-Ibadan highway.


The State Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, revealed this yesterday while informing the Correspondents of the Government Houses after the Security Council Meeting chaired by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

The State Attorney General and the Commissioner of Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, had addressed the CP over the weekend to advise him on the relevant provisions of the law that could guide the ongoing investigation that could lead to possible prosecution.


Edgal confirmed the receipt of the letter saying that investigations into the incident were ongoing and that the government would not allow vehicles that pose a serious danger to residents on the highway.

The chief of police, who interviewed journalists along with the heads of other security agencies in the state, specifically commiserated those who lost loved ones for the tragic incident, while praising the emergency teams that quickly They ran to the scene to keep the causality low.

"As far as the investigation of the matter is concerned, it is under way, I have just received a letter from the Attorney General's office and from the Commissioner of Justice in which the charges we are going to prefer against the driver and the owner are very clearly stated. of that tank truck.

"From now on, we are taking this opportunity to request all tanker drivers, all truck drivers, all owners of such articulated vehicles to send those vehicles for testing by the Vehicle Inspection Office ( VIO) They must pass through the center and obtain the Road Viability Certificate from the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) We will not allow these vehicles, which obviously represent a serious danger to other road users on our roads, "said Edgal.
