Tears As Delta Traditional Ruler Dies After Being Shot By Assassins

The people of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, have been thrown into mourning following the shocking death of their traditional ruler HRM, Engr. Michael Oviese, who was allegedly shot by suspected assassins two weeks ago.

The monarch who was shot around his lower abdomen, died on Tuesday in an undisclosed hospital where he had been receiving treatment.

He had been attacked by gunmen numbering five at a building along a street near St Michaels College, Oleh, by hoodlums who attempted to dispossess him of his car, as he personally drove himself to visit a closed ally in the area.

An Abuja-based fish businessman who allegedly stole four umbrellas, was on Friday, sentenced to prison by a judge at the Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja.

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 30-year-old businessman, Zakari Abubakar, to two months imprisonment for stealing four umbrellas.

Abubakar of Kado Fish Market, Abuja, was arraigned on a count charge of theft.

The convict pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, gave the convict an option to pay N5,000 fine, and warned him against taking to crimes in future.

The online fraudsters after they were caught

The operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspects who specialise in tricking sellers of expensive mobile phones pretending to be online buyers and thereafter rob the sellers at the point delivery.

The suspects, Wilfred Ehis, 30; Bright Eloho, 24, Emeka Egbemedu, 22 and Olanrewaju Kamilu, 33 were arrested on Wednesday evening in Olamulti Hotel, New Site, Iba, Ojo, Lagos.

The gangs had on 7th march, 2017 shot one Sgt. Garba Kadiri, an RRS operative while attempting to evade arrest when they were tracked down by the officers in Pretty Street, Iyana School, LASU – Iyana Road.

Two people have escaped unhurt after their plane crashed into the sea off the Sussex coast, Metro UK reports.

The pair swam to shore after the light aircraft came down ‘quite close to the beach’ in Shoreham, West Sussex.

A member of the House of Representatives, Nse Ekpenyong, was on Thursday arraigned at the Federal High Court, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for alleged forgery of a polytechnic diploma.

Mr. Ekpenyong represents the Oron Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State.

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, which arraigned the federal lawmaker on nine count charges, accused him of forging a national diploma certificate of the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State.

Joe Garza, a 65-year-old man lent his computer to a young family friend who discovered nude photographs of his 10-year-old sister on it.

According to Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the man, Joe Garza, Jr, was charged with possessing child pornography and s*xual abuse of two young children.

After he lent the computer to the family, they confronted Garza with the photos. The family then notified the authorities.

Garza was arrested on March 3. Initially, prosecutors charged him with possessing child pornography and s*xual abuse of the 10-year-old girl.

But on Tuesday they filed additional charges accusing Garza of also abusing the girl's older sister years ago.

South Korea's former President Park Geun-hye has been arrested and jailed over high-profile corruption allegations that already ended her tumultuous four-year rule and prompted an election to find her successor.

A convoy of vehicles, including a black sedan carrying Park, entered a detention facility near Seoul after the Seoul Central District Court granted prosecutors' request to arrest her.

Many Park supporters waved national flags and shouted "president" as Park's car entered the facility.
Prosecutors can detain her for up to 20 days before formally charging her, meaning she will likely be in jail while her case is heard. A district court normally issues a ruling within six months of an indictment.

The Presidency on Thursday said President Muhammadu Buhari has not changed his plan to return to his doctors in London, United Kingdom for follow-ups.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in an interview with journalists.

Shehu said it was not true that Buhari had decided to bring his doctors to Nigeria instead of returning to London.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a tailor, Lucky Emmanuel, for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old pupil in the Ajangbadi area of the state.

It was pure drama that took place recently at the Bright Light Prophetic Deliverance Ministries, Zimbabwe when the much-publicised ‘anointed’ honey which was meant to heal congregants ‘gave them diarrhoea.’

According to H-Metro, the incident occurred after the church leader Prophet Brighton Chikomo called his followers to the alter where he was ‘dishing’ out ‘anointed’ honey which he claimed had powers to deliver them from different ailments.

It is said that moments after they consumed the honey, congregants started manifesting claiming to have been delivered from different situations.

In the midst of his service, congregants could be seen queueing at the church’s toilets suffering from diarrhoea.

One of the women, who had a stomach bug, said though her situation had become worse she believed God was going to solve her problems.

“I haven’t been feeling well this past week, I was having a terrible headache so when the prophet told us about the ‘anointed’ honey, I decided to come and get my healing.

“After consuming the honey, I then started having a running stomach, I did not lose my faith, I still believe something good is about to happen to me.

“God works in mysterious ways and who knows this might be a way of bringing healing to me, Prophet Chikomo is a true man of God and I do believe in every instruction he gives us,” she said.

However, one of the ladies who was queuing at the toilet expressed disgust after suffering from diarrhoea.

“I was invited by my neighbour, she told me that I was going to get healed if I drank the anointed honey. I am now in a worse condition than I was before.

“It was better if I had not come in the first place because I now have more problems,” he said.

When asked for comment, Prophet Chikomo confirmed the diarrhoea outbreak which occurred during his church service.

“I noticed that most people left the auditorium going to the rest rooms but that does not mean that they are not going to experience their healing.

“The reason why people suffered from diarrhoea could simply be because they took too much of the honey and honey has got its negative effects.

With effect from 2017, candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination would have to spend two hours instead of three hours, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, said on Wednesday.

According to JAMB, a total of 240,000 candidates have so far registered for the examination which has been scheduled for May 20, barely one week after the commencement of the sale of forms which is expected to end on April 22.

The organisation said the reduction of hours was in line with international best standards and practices where no candidate is kept in an examination such as UTME for more than two hours.

Helen Ogochukwu, a 35-year-old trader, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating her neighbour, Mr Dotun Shomoye, to a pulp.

Vanguard reports that Ogochukwu, who resides at No. 5, Adekoya St., Oshodi, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of assault, willful damage and breach of peace.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 4 at her residence. Victor said the accused assaulted her co-tenant, Mr Dotun Shomoye, by beating him to a pulp.

He said the assault followed an argument between the accused and the complainant, Shomoye. He said the accused tore the complainant’s T-shirt valued at N2,000, while the case was reported to the police and the accused was arrested.

The Ibadan Zonal office of EFCC, Monday, 20th March, 2017 took over five suspected internet fraudsters arrested by men of the Oyo State Joint Security Task Force, 'Operation Burst' for further investigation.

The suspects, which includes Oyewole Oyeleye Olatunji (28), Adeniran Adeyinka Yusuf (29), Samuel Olumide Adeola (29), Israel Adeola (24) and Olorunyemi Savior Imonah (24) were arrested March 13, 2017, during a routine surveillance at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomosho.
