According to a ruling by a Makurdi High Court, two surviving kidnappers and murderers of Father John Adeyi will die by hanging.
Father Adeyi, vicar general of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and pastor of the Okpoga Catholic Church, was abducted in 2016 by unknown gunmen.
The cleric was later killed and his body was thrown into a farm near Otukpa.
However, four of the kidnappers were arrested by a Nigerian police team led by ACP Abba Kyari a few months later.
In a verdict on Wednesday, the court found the two surviving suspects guilty and gave them death by hanging.
In response, the family of the late cleric said in a statement today that the verdict of the court was finally done justice.
"Today, 25/07/2018, the kidnappers and murderers of Father John Adeyi were convicted and sentenced to death by a Makurdi High Court.
"While applauding the judgment and thanking God and all who made this possible, we must say that today is a sad day to remember the brutal death of our dear Reverend Father John Adeyi, PhD.
"It is gratifying to know that the culprits have not gone unpunished.
"May the soul of Father Adeyi continue to rest in perfect peace with his creator."
