SIX FEDERAL SARS AGENTS JOIN THE DELTA STATE POLICE COMMAND INVOLVED IN EXTENDED AND DETAINED EXTRACTION.
Behind the Bars Rights Initiative facilitated the arrest of six SARS agents led by inspector Asemota on Monday for extorting 40,000 Nm of the twin brothers MARK and MARTINS at the NYSC camp.
They were arrested and charged with misconduct and official corruption by IGP Xsquad.
Mark and Martins were arrested on July 22, 2018 while traveling to Warri, Delta State, from Abraka. Their vehicle was stopped and they were asked to submit their phone for search.
The police threatened to detain them in the police cell for refusing to give their consent. They seized their phones, searched their bags and found 70,000 N. The police took them to a gas station, counted 30,000 N and were handed them. The boys pleaded but were ignored.
They immediately informed BBI Intervention Squad (BBIS) and the officers were followed in the Ekpan Warri Police Station. The N40,000 has been paid back to the BBI team.
We reported the case to IGP Xsquad, the Delta State Police Command, and immediately sent their men to the Ekpan Police Station.
Today, the agents were invited to an interview and when asked if they had extorted money from Mark and Martins, they answered YES.
They have been defective, detained and await trial.
