Man Drowns After Rescuing Pregnant Woman From Raging Flood In Ondo state

An unidentified young man drowned in a river during a downpour Friday evening in the region of Akure, the capital of the state of Ondo.

PUNCH reports that a witness stated that the man had met his untimely death after rescuing a pregnant woman who had fallen into the river during the downpour and was about to be carried away.

According to the eyewitness, during the downpour, the whole area was flooded and the pregnant woman passed when she fell but that the "good Samaritan" rushed on her and prevented her from slipping into the river .

He said: "During heavy rains, everywhere in the area was flooded and it was very difficult to identify the river road. As the pregnant woman crossed the flooded road, she suddenly fell into a gutter next to the river

"As she was struggling to get out of the flooded gutter, the (dead) man rushed to the woman and saved her from being carried into the river but unfortunately the woman was saved while the rescuer was swept away. River."

When contacted, Ondo State Command Police Public Relations Officer Femi Joseph confirmed the incident and said that the command had initiated an investigation into it.

He said, "It is very unfortunate that the incident happened and the man died trying to save another person. We still have to know the identity of the deceased, but we recovered the body and the investigation began. "

PPRO added that the corpse was deposited at the morgue of Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Akure.
