2019 Elections; INEC Reveals How Results Will Be Collated And Transmitted.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said results of the forthcoming elections will be collated and transmitted manually.

It also dismissed as untrue insinuations that it accorded the North undue advantage in the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) by handing over the PVCs to religious and community leaders for distribution to registrants, unlike what obtained in the Southern states.

INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education, Mr. Festus Okoye, who said these, yesterday, explained that the inability of the commission to adopt electronic transmission was because of the non amendment of the electoral laws .

Fire Guts INEC's National Headquarters

There was a fire outbreak at the National Headquarters of the Indepedent National Electoral Commission in Abuja on Monday.

An official of the commission who witnessed the fire incident told a Punch correspondent that the fire started from a spark from the air conditioner in the office of the Personal Assistant to the Chairman.

The fire which started around 12:10pm was said to have burnt the curtain in the office of the PA to the Chairman but was put out before it could do a severe damage.

The INEC staff said that the men of the Fire Service Unit of the commission acted swiftly to put out the fire within five minutes

NYSC members refuse participation in Rivers State election


Corp members are avoiding to participate in the legislative rerun election scheduled for Saturday in Rivers State, of course this is not unconnected with the level of insecurity there.

Investigation revealed that corps members who are being contacted to serve as INEC ad hoc staff are refusing to participate in the election because of fear of possible violence during the election.

A source who confided in Punch said that the corps members were not showing the usual enthusiasm to participate in the election because of the accusations and counter-accusation between the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike , and INEC.

INEC Fixes August for Voters Registration


The Ogun State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that eligible voters who could not register during the year 2011 voters’ registration exercise will have the opportunity to do so by August.
The state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Sam Olumekun, who disclosed over the weekend in Abeokuta, the state capital, also said the commission would begin the distribution of permanent voters’ card to those who had previously been registered by August 22.
