Election: Ekiti state Police Arrest 27 For Electoral Offences

The police in Ekiti say they arrested 27 people for election-related offenses on July 14 governorship election in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Ahmed, said the suspects were arrested on the day of the election.

According to the Public Relations Officer, DSP Caleb Okechulwu, 11 of the persons have been arraigned in court.

"The peaceful conduct of the election by the parties to the truncate process.
"We commend some individuals who are promptly alerted and informed about the activities of these persons.

"The response of the police to the election of persons of various kinds, including the impersonation of security agencies on election day, the influence of the electorate, the snatching of the ballot boxes and the attempts to disrupt electoral process.

"Eleven of the persons so far arrested have been arraigned in court.

"Investigation into the involvement of the others is ongoing and they would be arraigned in court if found guilty at the end of the investigation."
