Dr. Haruna Mshelia, Health Commissioner of Borno State, said that Acute Watery Diarrhea, AWD, had hit Borno State with 1,068 cases in 10 areas of state government.
Of the reported cases, 25 patients were hospitalized at the Benisheikh Hospital and Dala and El-Miskin treatment centers. Dr. Mshelia made the announcement yesterday, while informing journalists about public awareness of hygiene and sanitation to prevent waterborne diseases.
He attributed the epidemic of diarrhea and other water-related diseases to "defecation and poor sanitation" among displaced people, IDPs, camps and communities in Borno.
