Court Releases 114 Detained IPOB Women In Imo State

The 114 women suspected of belonging to the indigenous peoples of Biafra (IPOB) have been released Friday night by a high court in Owerri, the capital of the state of Imo.

The women were detained by a district court in Owerri on Monday and Thursday, respectively, after being arrested and charged by police for asking where the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kalu, was. .

According to PUNCH, the bail application filed by the main women's council, Ejiofor Uche, was not opposed as the police were not represented in court. The court accepted the bail application and released the women unconditionally.

Their release provoked a wild jubilation in the court premises and in Owerri, the state capital.

Addressing a correspondent, the police prosecutor, Theaddus Okay, said the police were not represented because the case had been referred to the Ministry of Justice for legal advice and decision.

He said that the police had no power in the subsequent decision.
