An outbreak of yellow fever in the Matazu area of Katsina state reportedly killed 115 people.
While members of the affected communities reported losing 115 people, local authorities said only 18 people died within three weeks of the outbreak. A former councilor in the Kogari constituency who spoke with the Daily Trust said that Kogari had been touched by the disease before spreading to the Unguwar-Sarka community.
He said: "In the past three weeks we have recorded more than 115 deaths."
Dr. Shamsu Ahmad, Executive Secretary of the State Agency for Primary Health Care Development, reported that 6,729,000 people had recently been immunized against yellow fever throughout the state.
"This is a suspected case of yellow fever.According to our list of lines and documents, 45 people became ill and 18 deaths were recorded.To date (Monday), there are 45 cases In the field, 11 blood samples were taken from the patients, five were negative for the yellow fever, and we are waiting for the result of another 6.
