Adewole said this at the opening of some state projects together with the Governor of the State of Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi (II) at the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital in Kano on Wednesday.
Some of the projects launched include: the free breast screening program for 1,000 women, the Mobile Tuberculosis Detection facility, access to care for members of the Kano State Tax Health Program and the distribution of laptops and Internet modems to Roll Back Malaria officers in the state.
A statement from the ministry's Media Director, Ms. Boade Akinola, quoted Adewole as saying cancer is "the number one deadly disease among women."
He said that launching free cancer screenings would reduce the death rate. The minister also on behalf of the Governor of the State of Kano opened the meetings of the Kano Health Trust Fund; Agency for the management of private health institutions and Kano Ultra Modern Special Hospitals.
Adewole said all the programs were aimed at achieving universal health coverage.
He said: "People like you (Ganduje) facilitate my work, other governors asked me to help them, but Kano's message has arrived and see what we are doing."
The minister said that tuberculosis was also a serious threat since more than 75 percent of Nigerians who had the disease were unaware of his condition.
