I Sold Food To The Driver Just s Minutes Before He Died - Ojuelegba Vendor Speaks On Tragic Accident in Lagos

 It will be recalled that around 9 pm on Tuesday, a truck loaded with piles of wood fell off a bridge in Ojuelegba, Lagos, and landed on commercial buses better known as Danfo.


Three people lost their lives in the accident while others suffered injuries.

According to TheCable, when journalists visited the scene of the accident on Wednesday, sweepers were seen throwing piles of wood under the bridge to clear traffic. Officials from the Lagos State Transportation Management Authority (LASTMA) were also seen controlling traffic.

The witnesses said that the three victims who died were the bus driver, the driver and a passenger. A merchant selling food at the scene said the incident could have claimed more victims, but due to the fact that the unfortunate vehicle had just begun to load when the incident occurred; then, only one passenger had entered. The bus driver bound for Mushin was simply identified by Aro, his alias name.



"When the incident happened, there was still traffic on the road, I saw a pregnant woman and her son getting off a bus in that place, and the driver of one of the buses involved in the accident was still buying me food. He asked me about his balance and I told him he had N30 left He nodded and got in. But a few seconds later, we heard the sound of the boards coming down from the bridge He, his driver and a passenger did not come out alive "said the dark-skinned woman.

One of the bystanders said that the truck was stopped on the Ijora axis by policemen for overloading it and he was advised not to get on the bridge before it was released. A few minutes later, he climbed the bridge and bowed before unloading the piles of wood from the bridge.

The cable photojournalist who tried to take photos of the scene was challenged by thugs, while he was warned not to take more photos. However, the people who congregated to take a look at the crushed bus, spoke in a tone of silence about their fear of the industrial vehicles that sailed on the low bridge and the previous accidents that occurred on the bridge.



In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the emergency response prevented the loss of lives.

"The prompt response of the emergency / security operatives to the scene culminated in the rescue of two trapped victims who were removed with the help of the agency's light rescue team and immediately taken to the hospital by officials of the State Ambulance Service. Lagos (LASEMBUS) to receive more medical treatment, but unfortunately confirmed three lives (men, adults) lost by the incident, "the statement said.

Adesina Tiamiyu, general manager of LASEMA, said that an adequate investigation would be carried out on the incident.

He also warned heavy-duty drivers to make sure their vehicles are in good condition and that the loaded goods are properly attached to the platform before embarking on any trip.

Just 24 hours after the incident, commercial buses resumed their operation at the scene that they turned into a bus stop. Some of the buses that drive Ikeja parked in the exact place of the accident to pick up passengers.
