A couple, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Ojei was arrested on Tuesday by police in Asaba, Delta State for alleged child trafficking, reports the Daily Post.
Confirming the arrest of the suspects, the Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Muhhamad Mustafa, said that "the police detectives assigned to the State CID acted in a warning to arrest the suspects of the Okwe community of Asaba for alleged trafficking and sale of children, a newborn girl for N750,000. "
The suspects, from the state of Abia, in the interrogation, confessed the crime and said: "We negotiated with a buyer when Cashman contacted us and the buyer agreed before we transferred the baby."
According to the police chief, "the investigation revealed that at some point in November 2016, some alleged child traffickers were arrested in Ekwuoma and detained for interrogation, among these suspects is Nwakama Alias Madam Cash, leader of the group that is also detained for further investigation.
"All suspects arrested in connection with the trafficking of children will be charged in court at the end of the investigation.
"We have zero tolerance for crime in the state of Delta, under my supervision I will make sure that all criminals are sent to jail so that residents in all parts of the state can sleep with both their eyes closed.
