Ugandan pop star, MP Bobi has been released from hospital

l
Ugandan pop star and MP Bobi Wine were released from the hospital and left the country for treatment in the United States, police said.

It follows that the MP was severely beaten while he was being held by the army, allegations rejected by the army.

Last week, he and 32 opposition politicians were accused of treason over the alleged stoning of President Yoweri Museveni's convoy.

Bobi Wine had already been released on bail, but he had been told he could not leave Uganda.

On Friday, the police confirmed he was allowed to leave the country for specialized treatment after the government sent a team of nine doctors to examine him.

Bobi Wine's lawyer said earlier that the pop star was again arrested Thursday at the airport "even if the judge let him have his passport because he had to leave the country for medical reasons."

"He was violently thrown into a police ambulance, the lawyers have no idea where he is being taken and we are all really in shock," BBC Newsday quoted Robert Amsterdam as saying.
