Nigerian Man Dies Of Suspected Drug Overdose In India

A 34-year-old Nigerian citizen died in mysterious circumstances in his rented apartment in Burari, India, north of Delhi, where he remained in a relationship of coexistence with a woman, an African citizen, police said on Wednesday, September 19.

Police suspect that the man, identified as Jim James, died of a drug overdose. However, they are waiting for the autopsy report to determine the exact cause of death. No foul play has been suspected.

Jim had been living in the rented accommodation since 2014. The documents he presented to the owner show that the man belonged to Nigeria, said a police officer.

"We looked for his passport or any other document that could determine the defendant's nationality, but we did not find it, we have contacted the Nigerian embassy to determine his identity," said deputy commissioner of police (North), Nupur Prasad. (in the photo)

Police said the incident came to light on Monday night, when Jim was admitted to a private hospital in Burari in an unconscious state by his partner. When the doctors asked her what had happened, the woman could not give a satisfactory answer, said a police official related to the case.

"We have talked to the doctors, they suspect that it is an overdose of drugs, the body has been stored in the morgue and we are waiting for a response from the embassy officials to proceed with other legal formalities," he added. Prasad
