Delta State Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa said his government would compensate for the cost of health care for victims of the Sunday collapse of St. Paul's building in the Catholic Church of Ugolo, Adagbrasa, in the Delta State Okpe District.
In a statement by its chief secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Governor Okowa pointed out that adequate medical care must be given to those who survived the unfortunate collapse of the building.
According to a preliminary work commissioner's report, Head of James Augoy, one person died from the incident, eleven were hurried to the hospital, of which seven were treated and released while the remaining four were still being treated and under stable conditions.
Aniagwu quoted Augoye as saying, "The church is a 100-year-old church building, and in an effort to rebuild and expand the church, the old church building collapsed as a result of heavily soaked water that was in the burden of believers who leaned against the wall while the morning mound was turned on.
"While we are committed to paying the cost of treating the injured, people must ensure that they seek the necessary approvals before building, in particular public buildings, to avoid such incidents," he added.
