ENUGU State Police Command has promised to investigate the circumstances in which N3.6 million of over N8 million have recovered from a bank thief who allegedly has disappeared into police custody.
Enugu State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Danmalam, who has responded to the story, told Vanguard that he would personally investigate the matter.
"I'll investigate the matter and give you some feedback," he said through a text message.
It was said that a member of the Police Mobile Force, MOPOL, was guarding a bank in Nsukka, Enugu State, towards the end of June this year, when he noticed that some burglars had entered the bank behind the Total Gas station in the city and positioned himself to get her.
Shortly thereafter, the lonely thief, who turned out to be a newly solicited security guard in the bank, jumped down with two bags over N8 million and was immediately shot on one of his legs.
Afraid that the thieves would be many, the MOPOL man from the nearby police station in Nsukka had called for reinforcements.
Reliable sources said that when the reinforcements arrived, the officers packed both the thief and the two money sacks in their Toyota Hilux and brought them to their station.
The thief was said to have confessed that he was acting alone and that he was recruited as a security guard by the bank barely a month before the incident.
However, when the bank officials were invited to fetch the recovered stolen money, one of the pockets containing about $ 3.6 million had "developed wings and disappeared."
