Poland Nun, Sister Cecylia Maria Dies at 110
The world oldest nun from Poland who would be the oldest in the world died at the age of 110. Sister Cecylia Maria Roszak helped the Jews escape the Nazis.

Sister Roszak entered the convent at the age of 21. During Germany’s occupation of Poland during the Second World War, when she was in her thirties, she was one of many nuns who founded a new convent near Vilnius, sheltering Jews who had fled the ghetto.
In 2009, at the age of 101, Roszak received the title of Righteous Among the Nations of the World from the Jerusalem Yad Vashem Institute.
The funeral mass was held at the Dominican Nuns’ Church in Krakow and Roszak was buried in the historic Rakowicki Cemetery.
Pawel Rytel-Andrianik, a spokeswoman for the Roman Catholic Church in Poland, described her as “probably the world’s oldest nun”, although Mother Superior Chruscicka stated that she is certain that Roszak was the oldest nun.
