APC, Senators Call For Saraki’s Resignation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and some senators elected on the platform of the party, today, urged the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to resign as Senate President.

The Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan has also appealed to the senators to cut short their annual vacation to consider the supplementary budget forward by the President for the 2019 elections.

APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and APC senators, led by Senate Leader, Lawan, who met with President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed-doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, told Saraki to vacate the office because the APC has the majority number of Senators.

According to them, Saraki cannot run to another party with the crown of APC.

Oshiomhole said, “Nobody in the APC will be surprised about the development, in fact they have stayed little bit longer than we thought. Last week the Kwara State Governor was alluded to have said he was leaving but he didn’t say when. So, we are not surprised at all.

“But these are what I might call temping moments because I had faced similar situations in my state, when people were leaving. But the beauty of democracy is that whether big or small, it is one man one vote, on election day, no difference between a senator, a president, a journalist and any other person.

“I was happy for one thing that the senate president as a mark of honour accepted that he is leaving not because the new leadership did not make effort, he admitted that not only did I do everything possible along with the Vice President, along with some governors and we had meeting with the President, but he argued that those efforts came too late. But I couldn’t have started acting before I was born.

Niger Delta Militants Abort 7-month Ceasefire

Niger Delta agitators signalled a return to hostilities in the oil-rich region, yesterday, when they called off the subsisting  seven-month ceasefire with the Federal Government brokered, November  last year, by Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, declaring Operation No Mercy and Destiny Takeover of God-given Resources.

The campaigners, under the auspices of 21st Century Youths of Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience, led by self-styled ‘General’ W O I Izon Ebi, blamed the Federal Government for the new turn of event, saying it (government) has, over the years, remained adamant in implementing agreements reached with the region’s representatives, including the 16-piont demand of PANDEF.

The militants were irked that the Federal Government was inciting the region, citing the latest provocative plan to build a $2 billion Refinery in Katsina, the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari, with money from the Niger Delta.

Their words: “The establishment of a refinery that will be refining Niger Republic oil without our refineries working, marks the end of oil exploration in the Niger Delta. We shall fight with the last drop of our blood to have a 100 per cent control of our God-given resources.”

The group had in a statement, last week, said the members were still mourning the massacre of innocent souls in Plateau and other states of the country, but warned the Federal Government to stop overstretching the patience of Niger Deltans. Calling on PANDEF not to intercede this time around, they said:

“We, therefore, end our mourning grace and call off our ceasefire and declare Operation No Mercy and Destiny Takeover of our God- given Resources, since the Federal Government has just demonstrated that all they need is the oil from our region with total neglect for our wellbeing and survival as a people.”

We’ll go after them —JTF

Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre, JMMC,  Joint Task Force, JTF, Operation Delta Safe, Major Ibrahim Abdullahi, who reacted to the threat, told Vanguard on phone: “Our mandate in the Niger Delta is clear, to protect oil and gas infrastructure. Whoever comes against our mandate, we will go after him and we will not look back.”

I’ll rather quit politics than return to PDP' - Orji Kalu

The former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, said he was not planning to move from the All-Party Progressive Congress (APC) to the Democratic People's Party (PDP).

His media assistant, Kunle Oyewumi, on Tuesday described reports on some online platforms about planned defection as mischievous, lying and the work of political traders and speculators.

Kalu said the APC, of which he is not only a member, but also a strong activist, "remains the only political party to save Nigeria from the atrocities of previous administrations." The former governor of Abia, while stressing that he will never be able to join the PDP, has called on those who spread false news to seek other means of survival than cheap political blackmail and murder of character.

He said that in light of the achievements of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC is strengthening in the Southeast and in other parts of the country. The former governor said that not only was a prominent member of the CPA, but a strong supporter of Buhari, without any excuse to anyone.

"My attention has been drawn to a report in some online media that I am ready to throw out the APC for the PDP.The malicious report is not only laughable but mischievous. This is another attempt by the enemies of progress to cause disaffection and confusion in the PCA.

I remain a strong and committed member of the CPA. Those behind the lie should seek the attention of lawful prosecutions. I am not disturbed and I will not lose sleep on the activities of political jobbers.

It is no longer news that I am going to fight for a seat in the Senate (Abia North) under the CPA in 2019. I prefer to leave the politics than to return to the PDP because the APC is the only political party that will take the Nigeria to enviable heights, "he said.

Nigeria's ambassador to South Africa, Ahmed Ibeto, has resigned.

He also abandoned the All Progressive Congress in power and moved to the opposition People's Democratic Party.

Ibeto reportedly arrived in Nigeria from Pretoria Sunday and Monday morning, he handed over his letter of resignation to the Department of External Affairs.

Our correspondent could not confirm whether the envoy saw President Muhammadu Buhari before returning to Minna on Monday night.

Ibeto was a deputy governor of the state of Niger on the PDP platform.

Checks revealed Tuesday that Ibeto has left Minna for his hometown of Ibeto in the state's Magama local government area.

According to sources, the former vice governor was received by more than 1,000 supporters while on his way to Ibeto.

Our correspondent realized that in Ibeto, the former ambassador would resign first from his membership in the PCA and assume membership in the PDP.

A source close to the former vice governor told our correspondent that he would join the race for governance immediately after registering for PDP.

It can be recalled that the former ambassador was a member of the PDP until the party's primary election in November 2014, during which he lost the governorship ticket for Umar Nasko, former chief of staff of the former governor Babangida Aliyu.

He resigned from joining the PDP with thousands of his supporters after complaining about the "injustice" done to him by the ruling party.

Ibeto was the vehicle on which the outgoing APC governor rose to victory, leading his campaign in the 274 districts of the state.

In addition, last year he was appointed ambassador and assigned to South Africa by President Muhammed Buhari.
