A policeman, Corporal Gabriel Bisong,
attached to the Alade Police Division, Somolu, Lagos was killed in the
early hours of Wednesday by armed robbers.
Bisong, who was in the company with two
others, was said to be on patrol at the time. The patrol team was
stationed at Church bus stop on Bajulaiye road, prior to the attack.
Residents living within the Somolu community told us that the robbers opened fire on the policemen immediately they were sighted.
A source said, “The policemen were at
Church bus stop on routine patrol. This must have been around 1am. Then
some robbers came in a white Murano jeep. Immediately the robbers saw
the patrol team, they opened fire.
“The policemen were taken unawares. One
died on the spot, while the remaining two were critically wounded. They
were taken to the general hospital at Oguntolu that night and later
moved to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.”
The wounded policemen have been identified as Sergeant Ogoigbe Egugoje and Constable Monday Efoma.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident.
She said, “The policemen were on patrol
when they were ambushed by the robbers. One of them was killed and the
others wounded. We have begun investigation to apprehend the culprits.”
