Oscar Disqualify "Lionheart" by Genevieve Nnaji having too much dialogue in English

Emmy.ng reports that Nigeria's participation in the 2020 Oscar "LionHeart" was disqualified on Monday, November 4 for having too much dialogue in English.

The film, which is Nigeria's first Oscar presentation, was presented in the Oscar category of the international feature film. The Academy's description of an international film "is a feature film (defined as more than 40 minutes) produced outside the United States of America with a mostly non-English dialogue track".

LionHeart, which is not excluded from other Oscar categories, including the best film, has just under 12 minutes of Igbo native language dialogue in southeastern Nigeria, with the remaining 94 minutes in English. With the disqualification, the number of films in dispute for the prize went from 93 to 92.

However, responding to the disqualification on Twitter, Genevieve Nnaji wrote:

"This film represents our way of speaking as Nigerians, which includes English, which serves as a bridge between more than 500 languages ​​spoken in our country, which makes us #OneNigeria." She added, "It's no different from the way French connects the communities of the former French colonies - we do not choose the one that has colonized us." As always, this film and many similar films are proudly Nigerian.

“This gesture is divinely oriented because God had heard their lingering cries for help such as this for indigent children to go to a world class schools like this one so as to bridge gap between children of the poor and rich in the country,” she said.

She added that widows “are concerned because their children are major benefactors. We thank Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, Found of COFI for giving children of indigent and vulnerable groups the opportunity to have good education and free medical care at no cost.

Supreme Court rejects appeal in remission of former Justice CJN Walter Onnoghen

On Monday, 4 November, the Supreme Court rejected the call asking the court to determine whether or not Walter Onnoghen, the President of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, was constitutionalized.

The seizin of Dr. Samuel Nwawka was dismissed by Judge Bode Rhodes-Vivour, who appealed to five judges after the appellant did not appear and was not legally represented.



Nwawka had asked the Apex Court to invoke section 22 of the Supreme Court Act to decide constitutional issues related to the means by which the federal government had caused the removal of Onnoghen as a NCJ through an ex parte application for a Code of Conduct on February 23. 2019.



The appellant asked the superior court to determine whether the fact that the first accused requested and ordered the removal of Onnoghen prior to his appearance before the Code of Conduct is or is not constitutional, arbitrary, scandalous and flagrant. Onnoghen Rights to the presumption of innocence.



The accused on appeal are the federal government, Abubakar Malami, Judge Tanko Muhammad, Mr. Mohammed Isah (CWB President), Danladi Umar (TAC Chair), the Honorable Julie Anabor (TCC member), the Council of the judiciary.
